From 2014 to 2017 I had the honour of being the Issue Editor of The Australian Photojournalist; the APJ, to its friends.
Published annually from 1994, the APJ was a non-profit, subsidiary journal for the Centre for Documentary Practice. For over two decades until the last critical support was ceased, the journal was run by a volunteer editorial board out of the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, Australia.
Each thematically curated edition showcased photo and text journalism which seeks to provide a platform to the stories of those more often silenced or preferably unheard, while casting a critical eye on contemporary journalism and mass media practices. Unashamedly political, and ideological, this 272 page, full-colour book privileges important stories in our world which cannot afford to be taken for granted or ignored.
Previous contributors include – John Pilger, Noam Chomsky, Jim Goldberg, Alec Soth, Lauren Greenfield, Ed Kashi, Edward Burtynksy, Eugene Richards, Donald Weber, Yuri Kozyrev, Jodi Bieber & many others.
‘Intended Consequences’ does not exist in delicious, 272-page hard copy like its predecessors. The above is a mock-up only; representative of the vision and hard work of a dedicated editorial team, and the generous contributions of a global cohort of talented documentarians.
